Shooting at Howe Park Injures Four Victims Wounded in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Law enforcement in Sacramento are working a shooting that occurred Saturday night April 18 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the moment officers were dispersing a large unauthorized gathering of multiple hundreds of people.

Prior to the Shooting

Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were first called to the park at approximately 6:30 PM after learning of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Following that, another report was received about a possible fight occurring within the park grounds.

An overhead unit conducted an aerial sweep but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. However, authorities discovered that a crowd of several hundred had packed into the park without official sanction.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Responding units moved to clear the area by surrounding the park and using their vehicle PA systems directing the assembled crowd to clear out. Nearly 15 minutes were allowed for attendees to disperse.

Just as the crowd began to move that 20 to 25 gunshots rang out. Gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Law enforcement quickly moved to searching for victims.

The Shooting Victims

Altogether, four individuals were located with gunshot injuries. The Investigation

Most of the gunfire was believed to have occurred near Cottage Way alongside the local Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Detectives recovered additional spent rounds on the Cottage Way roadway. These findings pointed to that one of the gunmen had been discharging rounds toward the south from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot store. Detainees in Solano County

Details gathered over scanner radio traffic revealed that a suspect Kia had been stopped in Solano County. Four detainees were detained. Sheriff's units were sent to retrieve the detainees to return them to Sacramento for further questioning. Footage analyzed by investigators confirmed that two individuals had fired weapons.
